In the midst of challenging days, I once wrote in my journal, letting my heart imagine what a perfect retreat could be - a charming old farmhouse on a bit of land, maybe with a barn beside it where I could make my photography studio, create, inspire, and hold empowerment workshops and classes to uplift others. I even dreamed of a lake or sunset view, though we had never lived in the country, making the vision feel distant.
Then, when we least expected it, this farm appeared almost out of thin air. A friend reached out to tell me about a property coming on the market, and from the moment we pulled into the driveway, I knew. It was everything I’d written about that day 2 years earlier. It was the old white farmhouse with 10 acres, a lake view and sunset, a barn ready to become my studio, and ample space for hosting empowerment workshops and kindness movement gatherings.
The space felt like it had been waiting for us to bring our dreams and purpose to life.
As we stood in awe, we noticed a sign that read The Cottage at Cedar Hill, a miraculous nod to the names of my previous studios, The Memory Cottage and The Studio at Daisy Hill. This small sign confirmed that we were truly meant to be here, as stewards of this land, so that we could use it to serve and give back to others.
While we never planned for a flower farm, we have found such joy in creating one, and we treasure meeting the people who come out to pick flowers, finding peace and beauty here just as we have. People say it has a feeling of healing and we totally agree.
We have worked to lovingly restore and renovate each building to create a warm, welcoming place that holds space for creativity, growth, and community.
